Tamron AF 18-200mm XR DI-II OR Canon EF 75-300mm f

Hi
I want to buy a canon 400D, but I am confused about lens,
I have two choices
1.Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens
and
2.Tamron AF 18-200mm XR DI-II

Please suggest me which one is better...
and also any good lens around the avg price of these two lenses.

I would never buy slow glass again. I only buy lenses with f2.8 speed or faster. (Excluding my wide angle which is F4, and only because for wide angle you usually require more DOF anyway).

My suggestion would be to start with one good fast lens and build your way up from there. A good place to start is the Tamron F2.8 28-75 mm. It's a good, light lens that produces amazing portraits, can get your fairly close (not macro, but good) and is capable of some amazing color.

Karma brings up one interesting point - the notion of buying "fast glass" is a good one, though often more expensive not only because of the larger elements but also because most lensmakers build fast lenses with the mind that pros will use them, so they are often better built mechanically. Oh, and they are heavier than their slow counterparts.

But as for the two lenses you mention - obviously the 18-200 has more versatility as it goes to a pretty nice wide angle view. Of course, the 11:1 zoom ratio implies that optically the lens might not be the greatest (though the 18-200 Nikkor is a great lens). While the 70-300 has a longer tele side, I would think you will get more use out of the wide angle area that it simply does not have.

  Thanks
Karma and Bob for your suggestion...
But I read many reviews after posting the Q,

The conclusion that I got is Canon EF 75 - 300mm is not good enough, It not produces sharp images and also details in images disappear when we take photographs using full-Zoom of that Lens.

Many of the site said that Canon EF 70-200 f/4 L Lens is a better choice then Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM Lens.

But still searching about the review of Tamron AF 18-200mm XR DI-II lens...

Can any one please tell me about the image quailty of both these lenses?

I am getting rid of my Tamron AF 18-200mm because the quality of images are not that great. I didn't realize how terrible until I invested money into the Canon 70-200mm F/4.0L IS lens and the Canon 17-40 F/4.0L lens. They are night and day., but they also come with a price tag.
