Over Exposure with Nikon D200

Recently I upgraded from my Nikon D70S to the new Nikon D200. So far, it has taken a little getting used to, epecially when using it with a flash. Let me first describe my setup... As mentioned, a Nikon D200 with a 24-120 Nikon-Nikkor VR lense and an SB-800 flash. Ok, what I have noticed is that the Nikon D200's sensor is extremely sensative and very touchy. In indoor low light situations, I have been having a heck of a time avoiding over exposure when using my flash... I actually turned my exposure value down on the camera to more than -1 along with the value's turned down on the flash as well. Can anyone perhaps give me any advice, or has anyone been having the same problem? Thanks in advance,

Joe
