580Ex problem Hello, I don't like flashes!!! may be because I don't know how to use them. I recently got a 580ex, and after may be a two dozen flash exposures it starts taking its time to recycle!!! and I hate to miss a shot especially when its an event and indoor photojournalism. I know I sound frustrated because I am. Moreover, I lost the manual in a trip and now I couldn't find it on the net. Could you help me out??

Use NiCad or NiMH rechargeables. They maintain level voltage until just before exhaustion, so cycling will remain relatively fast and contistent. The voltage output of Alkalines drops with use and will take longer and longer to recycle the flash. Even including the cost of the charger, recycleable batteries are also less expensive over the long run than alkalines.

Hi Sobia, If you get the Canon rechargeables your recycle time is 1 second. It will last you abot 100 flashes. If you need more power, the batter belt pack is a good purchase. I have the 2x2 from quantum. It last all day. You will need 2 sets of the canon batteries for the 580ex. Good for about 1000 pictures with instant recycle time. At the reception I like to use just the batteries in the flash and shoot quickly to get missfires or half way recycled fires. Its kind of like bracketing and you get different effects.
