  Hi Sara,
Good question, and, as Alan points out, Brooks is certainly one of the top "brick-and-mortar" schools for training pro photographers in the world.

You (and anyone else reading this) might also want to consider BetterPhoto's online photography courses. These classes are interactive, with weekly lessons and assignments, critiques by a professional, and discussions among classmates and instructor.

We have more than 100 classes in Photography and Photoshop for all skill levels (from beginner through hobbyist through aspiring pro). Check out the course categories.

Now you can even preview a class for free! Try out a sample class...

Thanks!
Kerry

  To Kerry D.

I had considered taking the courses here online, and I would love to.

But I am only 18....and lacking the "means" to take these courses. My father is devoted to my improvement in my art, but not for $200.00.

  Hi Sara,

I'm with Mark on this one. When you are in a better financial position to dedicate yourself to your art, skip Brooks and head straight for Pasadena Art Center instead. It costs a pretty penny, but having this on your resume pretty much guarantees that you will be taken seriously by any one from an editor to advertising agency. Good Luck!

  Sara,

Please re-read Mark Feldstein's response. I would support everything he said, and then some.

Consider "beyond school" to what you would offer a potential employer. It is imperative to have a business scale of mind to interact with art/ad agencies who may be interested in your work. You must be articulate, business minded, and have a sense of what your customer/client's want and needs will be on assignment.

I'm underway to a new career change after twenty years; call it my second career move. I'm faced with a similar interest as you've described. That is, where to get a well rounded education.

In my research, I found Hallmark Institute of Photography in Massachusetts. This has to be one of the most comprehensive commercial photography and business management schools I've seen -- I've been looking for three years!

Hallmark takes you from basic photographic fundamentals to studio management and ownership strategies. Check it out and request their catalog at...

That's my two cents. I wish you the very best!

Thanks very much, Debra for helping my tired brain remember "Pasadena Art Center" !!

And Dan, sounds like you're also on the right track. Thanks for sharing that one. I hadn't heard of Hallmark yet but I'll suggest it for people to check out too.
Take it light guys.
Mark
