Photography Question

New way to moniter threads

I see threads all the time that I want to keep an eye on but not contribute to, and I see comments from people who don't have anything to say but just want to be notified of new comments so they can read them. Betterphoto should look into a way to set threads to send you emails without actually commenting on them.

Yeah. When you sign in, above every thread, there should be an (un)subscribe to thread button.

sheeting someone? What does that mean? It's not that I don't want to contribute, if I think I have an answer I like to give it, but sometimes I don't have an answer, I just want to learn from the thread or see what happens, but I don't want to clutter it up saying, "I don't have anything to say, I just want to see what happens" I'm not the only one that does that, I've seen those types of responses from others.

just post and say passing by,it's not a clutter.if your interested just say hey.kinda simple and big deal.
I don't think bp has time for special treatment.i'm pretty sure if you hit respond with no post,ya get a response.even though your name shows up,you may learn.
seeming stupid when I post,i get over it.

It was just a suggestion, I'm not looking for special treatment. Forget I said anything.

No! Change is healthy, especially when it makes the site more user-friendly to everyone! It would be a good feature!!

By the way, on almost all forums I've seen, you can subscribe or unsubscribe to any thread by a link at the top/bottom of the threads. It is far more convenient than making a dull comment or finding the discussion in your member center. It's not like it would be so hard to implement.

steph,i/we can't forget you said something.there is nothing wrong with not having knowledge or seeking knowledge.
but we can't always just watch.maybe later you'll realize when your mouth opens your voice will be heard.
change is only healthy when it benifits most, all is never included.
user friendly to some may be detrimental to others.
ya wanna tag along, tie a balloon to your bicycle spokes.

The whole point of the thread was to make myself heard. I'm just tired of being called spoiled/lazy or whatever you think I'm doing.

Sam, as you have so eloquently pointed out, sometimes it is better to leave one's voice silent if that voice will have nothing beneficial to add.

“It is better to keep your mouth closed and let people think you are a fool than to open it and remove all doubt.”

David is right. And wanting to learn about something interesting from the sidelines does not make one lazy, and asking for the feature does not make one spoiled.

But Samuel has his ways. ;)

Ahh, Sam, you know we love you! ;-)

You're right, of course, one way to watch a thread would be to add a comment, something like "Just watching." Steph was just adding something to the wish list.

You know what Sam? I don't care what you think. I would have, if what you had to say was in any way useful or helpful, but it's not. I hope you don't go around insulting everyone who makes a simple suggestion. BTW, being attacked when I say something doesn't really give me incentive to say anything else, so I'm not sure what you're trying to accomplish. There was a thread from a wedding photographer who is having trouble with a client, I was interested and wanted to follow the thread and see what happened, and maybe learn something, but since I am not a wedding photographer, I didn't have anything to say about it. So I thought it might be easier for me and anyone else who might find themselves in a similar situation (yes, I do think about people other than myself shocker there, huh?) if, instead of searching through all of the threads to find the one I wanted and maybe finding that there's nothing new on it, there was a button that would send an email when there was a new response. And I don't see what's wrong with that. I don't expect bp to jump at it, or even do it at all, I'm not that stupid or self-involved. I just thought I would put the idea out there and maybe it would be helpful. And even without such a button, I will continue to follow some threads without responding to them, maybe because I don't have an answer, maybe because someone has already said what I would have. So insult me all you want, it doesn't matter.

Stephanie, don't take Samuel's words to heart. He is witty/sarcastic/rude/insightful to just about everyone, and he is not really serious about half the stuff he says. It is pretty much just his way of joking around.

It is good to put out new ideas, and that shows you are smart and zealous, that you take initiative; it doesn't mean you are stupid and lazy. For almost all the time I've been here, I've wished there was a simple subscribe/unsubscribe link on each thread, and the more people who voice their opinion, there more likely it will happen.

Having said that, there is nothing wrong with saying, "I just want to see what happens in the thread..."

so I posted on this thread and offended you stephanie.
did I actually make a mistake or just did'nt collect my words well?
i'm not a journalism student.
many have posted and want an easy way to secure knowledge, but wish not to appear less informed.
so I don't understand..but if you think my opinion rates any higher than yours, wrong.
for you see steph, ariel has given me a resume.kinda a back of my hand statement.but yeah.
I never said you were wrong,i challenged your thinking,as I do mine.
