Bypass Auto focus points on Canon

My canon 30D has several autofocus points as visible throught the view finder. Is it possible to bypass them so that It always selects the center point to focus on? It seems like my photos are always out of focus because the camera decides to focus on something in the foreground or background of what I want to focus on.
I still want to keep the camera on AUTO focus though.

Thanks in advance

Willie

The Basic Zone exposure modes (green box and the icons) will always employ automatic focus point selection from all the sensors. To select a single AF sensor, you need to shoot in a Creative Zone exposure mode: P, Av, Tv, or M. P is a full auto exposure mode and works just like green box, but allows you to set the ISO, apply exposure compensation, choose whether to use flash or not, etc.

Some cameras have 'flex focus', whereby the focussing point, visible in the viewfinder, can be moved using the 'joystick' 4-way button.

On the 30D, set the camera to one of the Creative Zone modes as Jon said above. Then press the AF point button near your right thumb. It has a symbol that looks like a viewfinder with AF points in it. Look in the viewfinder, and turn the main dial (near the shutter release button) until only the center AF point is lit.

To go back to auto point selection, repeat the procedure and turn the main dial until all the AF points are lit.

Wanna bet that's in the manual?

W.S. - Of course it's in the manual, what's your point? The original poster asked a question and I knew the answer, so I decided to help him out. That's what most people come here for. People ask questions, and other people answer them.

You used to post some helpful comments from time to time. What happened? Now it seems that all you're interested in is belittling newcomers and embarrassing people who ask questions that you feel are beneath you.

If you're tired of answering easy questions, then just ignore them. Someone else will be happy to help, without throwing in the bad attitude.
