Aileen, first you need to determin whether you really have a lens smudge. Generally a smudge on the lens will not show up as a recognizable smudge on the picture. What does show up as a blurry smudge is dust on your sensor. Go ahead and check your your lens. You will be able to see any significant smudge. Most lens coatings these days are pretty durable. You can use a microfiber cloth, lens tissue or even old t shirt material. DO NOT use regular tissues or paper towels. If the smudge does not go away, you can fog the lens with your breath and try again. My guess is that this is not a lens problem but dust on your sensor. If that is the case, you will need to have someone clean it or purchase a kit to do it yourself. Bill

thank you bill I have hopefuly attached a photo that shows the mark I will check my camera tomorrow to see if it is the lens I noever thought it could be the sensor as I am always careful but hey things happen. The photo is of my husband trying to get his remote control airoplane out of a tree he had crashed into, not a good photo I took it to show people how silly he is for not noticing the great big tree.
