Is this kit any good for portraite photography

This entry level flash kit offers ample power for the home studio at a budget price. The kit comes complete with two 150 watt/sec flash heads, two lighting stands, a 60x60cm softbox, a white translucent umbrella, power cables and sync cord, all in a carry out carton. The flash units which offer a guide number of 30 in metres at 100 ISO can be adjusted to any required power level between full and one eighth power.

It cost £200

Hi Aileen,

since all the good advice forum members have offered you seems to fall on deaf ears:
by all means, get that kit, and have loads of fun with it....

Just don't ask any questions anymore as long as you're dead set on ignoring the answers entirely.

You know better?
Then go get that kit!

hi I am not ignoring the answers that I have been given and am sorry you feel I am I dont want to upset anyone I have read the answers and looked at what everyone has said. I went into my local photo shop and got told that this kit was good but as I have already bought one that was no good before asking on here if it was I thought I would double check with everyone. Again I am sorry if you feel I am ignoring what everyone is telling but as I said I got told by a photographer this was a good kit for what I was wanting to do.
I will now like to say that if you prefer I no longer ask questions and look for advice then that is what I will do.
Please accept my appologies if I have upset anyone on this site regarding my asking for advice as this was not my intention, I am completely new to photography and only want to make sure I am getting the right equipment.
Aileen

  Thank You W.Smith.
I understand wanting to get the right thing, but sometimes here it is over done.
I know some of us disagree on our opinions for techinque or equiptment and you'll always get a huge debate over film vs.Digital and Camera Brands but I think we all agree, that when several have given thier best advise and it is taken with a grain of salt we then feel more of a need to step back.
and let you find your own way.
I know they sell Photogenic and Bownes/Calumet in the UK, I have couciled several others on this,as I am sure other Professionals have.
I also understand wanting to stay within a certin budget(which I asked you for, and did not receive- I was already going through UK sites and Ebay)
But if you think you will get a Great something for nothing-
I am really sorry.
We all start somewhere and then upgrade as we can.
We try to help others learn from our experiance and start at maybe a better place then we did and grow easier.
If you want to send me a budget thats fine-but researching random links just take up to much time.
Thank You,
Debby

Aileen, you were advised a number of times that you need 600ws, minimum!, for portrait photography. Some of us even advised you 1,000ws or more.
Yet you get a 2x 150ws kit and STILL ask if that's good....

Is there something wrong with your math?

  Aileen,
We are not mad just Frustrated.
You are taking the advise of a sales person.
We get paid nothing for what we contribute here.
We love our hobby or profession and would like to see others succeed in thier goals as well.
Haven't you ever looked for a car?
got lot to lot each one telling you why they'res is better then the rest- thats what you'll get out of phototuriums as well.
We are trying to let you know what we have experianced USING the equiptment we are suggesting.
Thats why I told you to read the Studio Threads, see whitch lighting others had choosen, how they feel about it.
Email them ,get thier responce.
This is what you should be doing ,before traveling shop to shop.
I do hope you will understand, we have tryed to give you advice that if taken should make you a better consumer and know a bit more of what you want.
Wishing you always the best in your ventures,
Debby

No but as I said I got told that this was a good kit and would suit me fine for what I wanted
(to take photos of family and friends children).
i will now go back and tell them that I have been told that I must get a 600ws or preferably 1,000ws kit, as anything less will not be suitable.

thank you
