Problem Uploading Photos

I am unable to upload images. After dragging images to upload window, then click send button and Internet Explorer say it has a problem and restarts. No problem uploading or downloading to other sites.

I'm not 100% what the cause is (problem with java, flash, or IE), but I suggest a couple things: Install Firefox, and see how that is. Try also using the single image uploaded. Double check to see if you sized the files correctly.

The fast uploader does not work for everyone, unfortunately. I have a G5 MAC and Safari and Firefox - latest versions - and it won't let me upload - so I have to use the single image uploader. I've never understood why, something to do with security on the computer or the software. Fortunately, as a teacher I don't upload on a regular basis. I would not use IE browser, I'm pretty certain that one is not working properly. Firefox is a good alternative. Make sure that the images are sized correctly (500 pixels or less on the shortest side) and if the multiple file uploader requires JPEGS make sure you've saved them as JPEGS. The single uploader will take TIFFS. I size my pics to 500 x roughly 750 pixels, at 360 DPI, save as tiffs, and then upload. They get compressed in the upload process and I'd rather start with an uncompressed file so the quality stays a little higher. Hope all this helps!

Like Brenda said, the fast uploader doesn't work for everyone - but it does work for many. I use Windows XP and Internet Explorer and have not had problems with the uploader. I have not tried it in Vista yet.

What version of Internet Explorer are you using? Have you checked for updates lately? The fast uploader uses an ActiveX module, so if the security settings in IE are set too high to allow ActiveX modules to run, then this could cause problems. If you think this is the case, I can help you find which settings to adjust. You don't want to just turn security off or set it too low, that is risky.

Hi Jim – if you have not resolved this problem yet I might have some insight. I’ve been working on my new gallery and using the multiple image upload feature a lot. The one thing that I have learned is important is the total dpi for each image. If, for example, your image has a dpi of 600 – it will not load correctly and you will receive an error message. I kept getting errors until I realized that although I had resized my images I had kept the original dpi. The uploader will accept Tiff or Jpeg images and while it says that you do not have to resize the image, I have found that I get better results when I size images to 750 (long side) X 500 (short size). If you still have trouble, I suggest you ask Amy at BP for help. She has really helped me in getting my new gallery up. I use IE without any trouble, so I am not sure if that is the culprit here.

Good luck!

Irene
