  Heather,
It took me a bit as well,
there is some help by Liza Franco and others on the Studio Photography Thread.
And the surching through the Threads here.
I started by just opening a image in PS.
Go to Iamage at the top bar and then scrool down to duplicate.
close your original and play with the dup.
I started by try all the adjustments.
* Go to image and adjustments and play with contrast , color , brighten and darken.
That will help with all the basic stuff.
then you can really play!!
and make the frames ect.
and no we may not hear from you for a while, it seems everyone gets lost in PS for a bit.
Have a ball,
Debby Tabb

Heather - the book that has helped me the most, what has now become something of my PS Bible is Scott Kelby's The Photoshop CS2 Book for Digital Photographers. He explains things is "real life" terms - meaning I can easily understand what he is saying. It has done more for my PS skills than anything else I've tried. Someday I will take a class, but for now this book is terrific.

  Heather,
I know I said this to you before on your other thread about photoshop. I agree with Irene get that book and also get adobe class room in a book for photoshop. Oh my goodness I also love love love the book photoshop restoring and retouching. It is amazing at helping you fix pictures. not just old ones but ones you may have taken and wish they were better. I really recommend you follw the lessons in the book and then get a picture you really like and do the same techniques on your own images right after.
Irene,
I did take a class after I had the scott kelby book and did all the lessons... guess what... during the breaks the other students kept asking ME questions on how to do things. so save your money and stick to the books they are very thorough and alot cheaper than the classes. I also love love love ben wilmores bookphotoshop studio techniques.AWESOME He is the guy adbe uses to teach seminars for the program. I like some of his techniques a little more than scott kelby's.

Photoshop is also a graphic design tool, so has many features you may not need. Don't be intimidated; just go though one of the books mentioned and take it a step at a time. Most important are the Image Size screen and the Levels and Curves methods of adjusting brightness, contrast and color.
