lenses What would be the correct lens to use for studio potraits single & group portraits, I have just bought a 17-40mm lens which a friend sugested. have I bought the right lens.

Sorry to have to burst your bubble, Debbie, but you won't see any pro portrait photographer use a 17-40... The wide angle causes too much perspective distortion, which isn't very flattering. The focal length range most used for portraits is 80 to 150mm (in 35mm equivalent; that's between 50 and 90mm in digital, depending on your cam's crop factor). 80mm for small groups, 150 for single portraits (head & shoulders).

No, you haven't wasted your money, Debbie. You've got an excellent lens for PJ. Just not for portraits.
