Photography Question

Sean Page

What Type of lense?

I will have the opportunity to take some senior pics here in the next few weeks and I was wondering what a good lense for that would be, the pictures would consist of mainly close ups, right now all I have is the efs 18 -55 mm lense that came with my digital rebel xti.

Hey Sean. For portraits and close-ups, like head and shoulders, you ought to have a lens that will get you a bit closer than your 18-55. In 35mm format terms, my own preference is somewhere in the 85mm-135 (although I shoot fixed focus lenses. My favorite 35mm portrait lens is a Nikkor 105 mm f 3.5.

And, instead of buying a new lens to use just once in awhile, see if you can either borrow one of adequate focal length or just rent one. That'd probably cost you about 20 bucks for the weekend. If you need the names of a couple of rental houses, let me know.

Take it light ;>)
Mark
