Photography Question

Heather M. Wareham

0000 CC

I just went to the CC. There are lost of pictures with no comments at all. Is there a reason why NO ONE CC'S these pictures. If people are putting there pictures on there how come no one is helping. Some will say they didn't want to hurt the persons feeling. Is the true hurting them or helping them. I try to at least put some comment on the onces I see with 0000. But I am only a beginner and I don't know what to tell them on how to improve there pictures. I think the funny thing is there are pictures that have like 30, 61, 18, 49 comments. Don't you think these pictures have got all the help they need and some of the comments could have went to the onces with Less that might need your imput about there photo's. It just my thoughts out to you pro's who know what they are doing. Please help the once that don't.

  boy heather,
wanting to learn the workings of bp is great.but the same things that make bp work or not work, are the same things that make society work or not work.
most members are willing to help to a point, but it can be a catch 22 in cc.most do want help, but, which ones.
why can't these members visit galleries and when they see a photo they wish to emulate, ask the member,if the info isn't already included under the photo, how this was achieved.
the latest memember # i've seen is over 200,000.whoa.
if I am contacted by a member and asked for something,i'm glad to help all I can.
whatever trips your trigger,sam

  Samuel Im sorry
I guess I got up on the wrong side of the bed. To me if there is so meny people on BP. Then why are there so meny pictures posted with No comment at all. But then I see some that have over 80 comments. Its harder for the new people that think if they put there pictures on the CC that someone will help them and tell them what they could have done better. Just one person that knows what they are doing. I posted a pictures on there last night at 7pm eastern time. And its 3pm the next day and the only comment are my own that I added another picture to compare colour to black and white. I know I don't have the PS and I don't do this for a living but I do want to learn if no one tell me what I did wrong or if I did it right. How will I know I think it looks fine but this is all new to me. Sorry Samuel maybe I should come back on tomorrow. It seem that I have a thorn in my side today. Sorry don't mean to be a pain.
THANKS FOR LENDING ME YOUR EYES> LOL LOL

Heather, it's sad for there to be so many photos in the CC section with people wanting/needing help, but early on I found that there are members that don't really seem to want CC in spite of the fact that's where they placed their photo. My problem is I seem to be a magnet for those who say they want critique and don't really. You know the ones, you offer some helpful advice then someone argues that there's nothing wrong with the photo. I basically don't critique for that reason.

  Heather,
I feel the same as Sharon. I try not to CC for a reason. Most people really don't want it even if they say they do. I have tried and gotten back nasty responses or they feel their photo is much better. I have even offered suggestions to folks on photos in their galleries to make but usually most floks will get offended. IT is unfortunate, but that is the way it is..

  Heather,
First of all, I love to hear fresh opinions about BP from people like you. You have posted several very good and very interesting Q&A items lately. It's a good thing that every now and then new members come along start asking good things and not so good things about BP, and inintiate discussions. I used to have and post several things that the site could improve and implement or change some funtionalities.., etc, but being here over three years now, I no longer come forward with that kind of ideas. So, do keep up and keep good and interesting questions coming.

Secondly, I don't know whether it's because English is not my native language or not, my Constructive Critique has not been taken well either. That's cool with me but the problem I have is the the friends of the photographer. They all come together and defend for the photographer. They would say, the photos is "fantastic" and nothing wrong with it, etc... Good deeds do no go very far on this site most of the time.
If you comment with friendly praises to many other photos, soon you will start getting as may as 50, 80, and more friendly praises from the people you regulary comment. I have had less time to comment for a year or so now, and so my photos receive no or only a few (one or two) comments now. (I do appreciate those who take the time to view my photos and comment. I would reciprocate to those who do.)
So, those 50, 80, and 100 comments in CC section are usually the same "friendly praises", not true CC, from the photographer's friends.

I agree that most people who post an image for C&C really only want to hear kind words. It also seems if some people have a fan club, Whatever they post is "wonderful!" Honest critiques are rare.If the shot is good, let me know what you like about it or if it needs improvement tell me how. "Oh its beautiful" doesn't tell me much. I have stopped posting images for C&C just because of this. When I had posted for C&C I wanted response to help me become better at what I do. Could it be that the experienced members are staying away from C&C. If so it is sad because they can offer the best advice.
It seems the best way to get an honest critique is to get a "Pro Critique" for $80. It is well worth the money.
Other forums have categories to post images just to share them and then a Critique section with a warning that feedback can be harsh.
Well this is the end of my rant :)

hardy har har.
anyway heather,i was saying that if you can upload the photo here in the q&a and ask for an opinion or what people think, you might have better luck.
somehow i'm beginning to believe there are more people out their willing to say what they think.hmmm.

Sharon hit the head right on the nail. Many ask for CC, and of that group, quite a few take offense when it is offered. My advice Heather is find someone's whose work you respect and ask them in a private email what they think. When someone does offer a critique, go to their gallery and see if they walk the walk.
