MOON PICTUES

I have put my camera on night setting to take a picture of the MOON. it looks foggy. How should I set the camera up to take a clear picture. Should I zoom in on it or should I just leave that later for cropping. I find night pictures are the hardest.

Type moon in the Q&A search and look through the several threads about it.

Your pic looks 'foggy' because of camera shake, Heather.
To get 'a clear picture' put your cam on tripod, zoom in and compose, underexpose by about 1.5 stops, and use the selftimer! So that you don't touch the camera during exposure, and so it can stop 'swinging' during the countdown.

Have fun!

Tonight – 3-2-2007 – is THE night, Heather!
Because tonight – at 00.21AM, so in 21 minutes time from now – we'll have a full lunar eclipse!
So get your gear outside and catch a rare shot indeed!
Obviously a lunar eclipse, when complete, gets you a beautiful pitch black picture... Which is not what you want. You may get an interesting shot though at the beginning or the end of the eclipse. When only a part of the moon is in the Earth's shade.
Underexposure by 1,5 stops may be too much. Best do some bracketing sequences.

Have fun!

You definitely need to underexpose because your camera sensor will see alot of "black" or dark, and try to overexpose. I've used this handy guide when manually setting the exposure. I also use a tripod.

here is a few more things that might help. if your tripod has a hook under it like mine, hnag some weight uner it. I use one of my bags with equitment in it. more wieght less shake. also set your iso low. I shoot 100 or 200 iso. thats my $0.02 worth. good luck

Well we couldn't even see the stars here last night. All was clouded over snow snow snow for the last couple days. So no clear skies here. Did any one else take pictures. Thanks for your help. Will have to wait for a clear day.

Apparently the lunar eclipse is today (not yesterday). And it is supposed to be visible in Europe, starting about 2 hours from now. So in the US you may perhaps see a smidgeon of it if you're in the north-east.
And this is what we're hoping to see:
