Change to a smaller aperture or faster shutter speed. Or do both. You're probably way over exposed.
Have you read the manual to the camera yet?

  hey heather,
I gotta agree.quit jumping around.
ya didn't give a time of day,light,anything.
one setting can work, but not both.
w.s.,could have elaborated,didn't.
ok,on auto see what the camera sets, should be in the viewfinder.only if you can set your camera in manual to a setting that will render a scene or subject better, should you change it.
what time of day was it heather?

here's a little education
1. your aperture setting f2.8 (a large lens openning) is letting in to much light. increase it to above f5.6
2. your shutter speed 1/30(1/30 of a second) let's the shutter stay open to long, also letting in to much light, keep it closed to about 1/250 and you should be ok. I'm not going to suggest you use the auto setting because I suspect you are experimenting.

It was about 1:30pm I was on the lake with all white snow. I set the ISO on 80 I thought the small the number Less light. The higher the number like 400 more light. I also had it set on white balance on Auto. AF MODE ON nine and CONT>AF was on. The AF ASSIST LAMP was on maybe this should have been off. Since it for night time. Pict.ADJ was on vivid. and Stabilizer is on mode 2. My Auto on this camera is a heart and it doesn't how me the settings. So I can't compare. All the other setting stay in the setting I put on the camera.

"My Auto on this camera is a heart and it doesn't how me the settings. So I can't compare."

FIRST point of order is to actually GET an image, Heather!
So put the cam on the Heart, Auto, go out and try again.

Set the ISO on Auto too, AWB on Auto is good, AF is good, Cont.AF is not neccessary, AF Assist Lamp doesn't make a difference.

If your camera has EXIF you can check all the used settings - per shot - later. Conveniently on your computer.

But GET an image first. ANY image.
