Signing your work I am preparing some of my images to hang permanantly in my husband's new office. I am having them matted and framed professionally. My quesion is on how to sign my work. How do most of you like to sign your work? Do you sign directly on the print or the mat? I don't really want to print it on when printing so signing it is what I want but not sure where. Any ideas? Thanks.

Sign it on the matt.........you want people to know and see the signature....it is after all a work of art and all artists sign their work....if you matt it sign it on the matt....if you don't matt it sign it on the print. That is my suggestion.

Sign the image on the back and on the matt that way if the image gets detached from the matt there is still away to contact the "owner" But, I also see no reason why you can not sign on the image itself. I have seen it done in a very classy nature with a gold point pen and it looks strikingly professional.

The matt or the image sound right to me. I don't think my Doctor would like it if I started to take his pictures down to look at the back to see if I can see who the artist is.

"I have seen it done in a very classy nature with a gold point pen and it looks strikingly professional." That may be a matter of opinion.

Thanks everyone for the input. After talking to the professional framer, I have decided to sign on the mat. I have seen photographers sign either way, so I guess it is personal taste. I just want it to look as professional as possible. Thanks again!
