Photography Question

photo mats

I'm still learning photo editing so bear with me. In Canon's DPP when I go to crop it asks for aspect ratios so I tried to 4:5 and the picture crop was what I was looking for, at least in my eyes. Well, when you try to print and I put in dimensions for 7.5 x ( ) and retain ratios I get 7.5 x 6. Understanding cropping and how to the the print to the correct pixel dimension would help.

Also, my wife and I decided we could go ahead and use the print in an 8 x 10 frame with a mat around it. Do you have to buy mats, can you make them? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Chuck

  Hi Chuck,
You can certainly cut your own mats. You’ll need a mat cutter if you want a beveled edge. Logan makes a good one that is pretty easy to use. You will probably need a little practice with it, maybe best to buy some inexpensive board to start with.
Thanks, John Siskin

Ps. I’ll have to let someone else explain Canon proprietary program.
