AF-Mode

What is the best setting to have this on. or what setting goes with what picture. I think 9-landscapes, 3 middle focous, big center dot for One subject, small center dot close up on plant something like that. Am I close at all.
Thanks

My camera allows me to set the individual focus point I want,or all of them. I usually select the point that covers the main subject of the image. If it is to the left, right, top or bottom of center. That way I am sure the camera will not choose to focus on something else. Another thing you can do is use the center focus point, focus, recompose and shoot.
(In the email you sent to me I thought you were asking about metering.)

boy heather your going to drive yourself bonkers trying to learn all this stuff in such a,what about this,
nature.
you do have a good sense of the question you asked as far as which focus points to use.but those focus points are also used as far as metering goes if your in auto.
even for a landscape photo you may want to use your center sensor and spot meter several elements in the scene checking aperture and shutter speed readings and select one you think will render it the way you want.from more of a shadow look to a scene with few shadows.
even if you pick spot focus on a plant,if you take it in harsh afternoon light,it will still look way overexposed.colors will be washed out and the details will be lost.eh.
basically nothing can be assumed to be the best setting.correct exposure is more of the goal, and that could change depending on a lot of variables.
just don't confuse your self jumping around with different settings, sam

  Hey Heather!

Did you fence that camera, or did you actually buy it?

Why don't you study the manual? It's as if you haven't got one!

Yes I did buy the camera and yes I did get a manual with it but sometimes the manual isn't enough and hearing someone else point a veiw is easier then the manual. Also I thought this was some were to come and ask Q to help people not anoy them. Like I have done to you. If My Q anoy you maybe you shouldn't read them anymore.
Thanks Everyone for you help and comments good or bad.

Wanna bet the answer to your question is extensively covered in your manual?

With pictures!

If you have a question I suggest you FIRST read your manual. 98% of your answers are there. THIS place is better suited for asking questions the answers to which you DON'T already have at your fingertips, staring you in the face...

if heather's manual is anything like the one that came with my camera, she's in trouble.i even purchased the magic lantern guide for my camera, and although it contained much more information, still doesn't explain what can only come from expierence and quite a bit of trial and error.
um,heather,i'm a moron sometimes with some of my responses.i've come home from a game with my mind still filled with x's and o's and motion offense's and zone defenses, and still regretting not just choking the living h out of a referee that..
disclaimer;no letters please,i am very calm around the youth and never complain about anything, bad role model.
some people only want sugary comments on their photos, definately no vinegar, period.
good or bad,here we are.
personally if everything were peaches and cream,i think i'd peuk.
so if you can put up with us just ask away, sam
