Beginning photography

I have purchested the Cannon digital SLR Rebel XT and love it. I have taught myself how to use it. I am wondering if there is a way to understanding the basics of photography. I have no idea what apature, f-stop and all those things do. Is there a simple way to explain them.
Also, about lens' do they have to be the same name brand of my camera. I am assuming yes.
Thank you.

Your lenses don't have to be the same brand as your camera. Sigma, Tamron, and others make lenses that are definately cheaper, I've heard they're good but I've never used one, so I don't know. Just make sure they have a Canon mount if you're going to buy one.
Look for some books on digital photography, there's tons of good, easy-to-understand info out there. Even an older book that doesn't have anything to do with digital will tell you about f-stops and such, most of the principles are the same.

Try "Betterphoto Guide to Digital Photography" by Jim Miotke. 'splens most everything.
And as long as you make sure the lens you buy is compatible with your camera, there's no problem. Although, you get what you pay for.
It's all in the glass... :-)

shoot, shoot, shoot is always true,
Set the camera in manual,at different settings and see what you get when you get home, if your camera came with the Canon utility program, it will tell you the image settings that you took, and you will see how the image correponds to those settings..OR try looking up the sunny 16 rule on the internet. Stick to Canon lenses.
