Photography Question

Black and white photos

When shooting black and white photos, is it better to use the cameras onboard black and white function or is it better to take a picture in full color and allow your digital imaging software to do the black and white for you (by removing one or more of the color channels)?

In my opinion, it is better to shoot the image in color and change it to B&W with your software.

This way, if you change your mind and decide that you like the image better in color, or selectively colored, you can have it both ways.

This question comes up quite often here, and I think this is the answer that you will get most often.

Thanks a lot Chris. I had a feeling that it was better choice to shoot in color and then use software, but I wasn't sure. Thanks for filling me in.

  Hi Jody,
You can usually use the both methods especilly when you've got the possibility and in the digital practice there is no difference between them, but the professinnal artistic shooters prefer to use black & white photo because it's very creative. Rafik

No, Rafik: SOME shooters - who consider themselves 'artistic' - prefer to shoot B/W because they THINK it is 'very creative'.

Other shooters think that's a load of BS: merely having a photo in B/W doesn't make it 'creative' in any sense. Just makes it B/W!
