Photography Question

Postcards

So, I just ordered some postcards through VistaPrint.com and they are not bad...but they are cut a bit short. My husband made them exactly to the specifications on the website, but they still aren't perfect. Again, not terrible...just not what we were expecting. Anyhoo...does anyone know of any other online print companies that offer good postcards at good prices? I know Mpix has them, and I know they are on sale...but at regular price I can get 100 postcards through VistaPrint (with free gloss and free black and white printing on the back) for the same price as 24 postcards through Mpix w/o the gloss or the backside printing. I do want to stress that the quality of the cards from VP is very good...they just aren't totally right on the dimensions. Just wondering if anyone knew of any other companies. Thanks!

  Hi, Ashley,
VistaPrint apparently has a habit of cutting things a little short. They did that to my business cards... :(
Unfortunately, I don't think that you'll find anyone less expensive. The better printing companies are, of course, going to charge for those better services.
If you still want to use VistaPrint: My advice is when printing with them leave plenty of room at the edges (just in case). Also, design images that will not be destroyed if they are cut off a bit. They did a wonderful job printing my postcard...But I did images where they could fade off the side and still look good.

Sounds like they make the sheet of prints exactly how you size it, but after it's cut they're a little smaller.
Like if you want to saw-cut a board to 24inches, you make your mark at 24. But you cut so the inside edge of the blade is at the mark. Otherwise your board will be 23 and 7/8th.

Be careful if you use VistaPrint, there are some upset customers out there!

"Be careful" is always good advice.

I do want to say, though, that my wife & I have probably placed around 20 orders from VistaPrint over the years. We have always paid with a credit card, and have never been "automatically signed up for memberships without our consent" like many of the complaints on the consumeraffairs link.

I would bet $14.95 that most or all of the complainers either clicked on these offers thinking it was a good deal and later regretted it, or they clicked without reading it first. If you're ordering something with a credit card, you need to take the time to make sure you know what you are doing. Read everything before you click on it.
