Lost Photos Hi all, I'm a little wet behind the ears, so bare with me. I think I may have lost all my photos by accident. I put the wrong folder in my recycle bin and as I went to trash it I noticed the folder, but it was to late. I had already pressed "Yes" to trash. Is there anyway to retrieve those photos. Please tell me yes.

Maybe. First of all, I hope you backed up your photos at one time or another. Second of all, you might be able to get certain software to retrieve what was deleted. I'm sorry I don't know the name.

I did a quick google search. http://www.dtidata.com/data_recovery_software.htm Maybe one of the first two choices on the list is what you want. http://www.quetek.com/ Might also have something. It is possible that there is free software to help you here: http://www.newfreedownloads.com/find/retrieve.html

Did you empty the recycling bin, or just send the file to it? If you emptied it, Ariel's response would be best. If you just sent it to the recycling bin, just open the recycling bin, and your pictures should be there. Just right click(I think) and somewhere it should say restore, click on it. That will send the file back to wherever you had it.

You're right, I had assumed that Carolyn emptied the trash. If she didn't, then there is no problem at all! As Brendan said, you can restore from the trash. BUT- It's better that you open the recycle bin, find the folder/files, select it/them, right click them, and then click restore. This keeps you from restoring everything else you put in the trash.

Sorry, I guess that I didn't make it clear that I ment right click on the file/folder!

Anyway, I emptied the recycle bin, but was told by others in my other post that as long as I don't upload anymore pictures on to my hard drive that I can retrieve it with recovery DVD. There are so may smart people here and good photographers too. Thanks again

W.S. - I'm sure you're just trying to make a joke, but the fact that Carolyn is a minor makes your comment inappropriate, in my opinion. No harm done, let's just drop it at that. Chris A. Vedros

Carolyn, I think that W is just trying to point out that the proper word is "bear". Bare is what the top of my head is. LOL Good luck in recovering your files.

I didn't get that until you made it clear Kerry. That is my moms favorite phrase, but I didn't know that you use the animals name to express it, sheesh do I feel dumb. I didn't know what that p-word was, so I googled it and that was a big mistake, but now I know.

CC- Wondering if you found your pics? I was going to recommend going to Kim Comando (sp?) website. She is a computer guru that has a radio show and I think you can download help for stuff like this off of her website or email her and she'll walk you through it. Good luck! Kimi Phillips

I was just looking at Apple's website and found this interesting. Maybe the next computer you choose won't have to worry about deleting files!

Ariel, A very similar technology has been around for quite a while for the much-maligned PC. There is a program called Go-Back that does almost exactly what Apple is describing. It was originally put out by Roxio, but Symantec owns it now, and usually bundles it with Norton AntiVirus or Norton Utilities. You can restore your whole system to a previous time, you can restore deleted files one at a time or in batches. You can even right-click on a file and see previous versions of it. That way, if you edit a file and forget to "save-as", you can recover the previous version of it. I'm not saying it is a perfect program. Depending on the size of your drives and speed of your system, you may experience some performance drag on some programs. There's always a trade-off. But I've used Go-Back, and it works well. No such luck :( My father borrowed a recovery program, I think from Norton, and said there were no photos of mine. After I had deleted my photos from the recycle bin my brother downloaded some pictures the next day, which I had no idea that he did, to our hard drive and then sent it to friends. He deleted it, but my dad saw them and was very mad. My brother told me they were a bunch of football pictures. What a bummer, my pretty pictures, written over by dumb football pics. Oh well, I guess I learned my lesson.

This probably won’t help, but is there any chance there is still a copy of your images stored on the flash card in the camera? I have also erased images I didn’t mean to erase, but it turned out that some of them were still on the flash card. Good luck! John Siskin

No John, I wish. I always format when I start a new round of photos. You're right Derek, my father was not to happy. He said he doesn't want me to talk to that character.

Even a formatted card or disk is not necessarily the end of the world, Caroline. try Zero Assumption Recovery (http://www.z-a-recovery.com/) who offer a free recovery system for formatted memory cards. I can also recommend File Scavenger. I have had good result with both of these programs even after the recycle bin had been emptied. New photos downloaded to your hard disk are only a death sentence if they get saved to the same physical location i=on your hard drive, which doesn't necessarily happen: you would have to be pretty unlucky for it to happen with all of your photos.
