Software OTHER than Photoshop Has anyone out there tried NOVA Development's PhotoImpact PRO v.11 or Publisher Pro 2.0?? I have played around with both and they seem to be OK. Any comments? Anyone?

You get what you pay for always stands true in the photography market and if they are overpricing they won't last.

Derek said, "You get what you pay for always stands true in the photography market and if they are overpricing they won't last." I think PhotoShop has always been overpriced, but they have managed to become the "defacto" standard anyway. I'm not knocking the merits of the program - even though I choose not to use it, I'll be the first the admit that it's probably the most feature-rich photo editor available. But I still think it's overpriced. That's just my opinion, I guess. I would bet that more than half of the people that buy PhotoShop CS2 now could get the same results with a cheaper program. Someone has convinced them (or they've convinced themselves) that they will only get "professional results" if they pay for it. Rob - I haven't used either of those programs. If you like them, and they give you results you are happy with, then that is probably all you need. Chris A. Vedros

If it is overpriced, then you think Canon is too. Then you probably think that everything is overpriced, until you find out how much overhead the company actually has to get where they are. You probably think that some photographers are overpriced, but if they are then why do peolpe pay. Cause they like the customer service. I thought in the beginning that MAC was overpriced. Its easier to learn and looks better when shown to clients on a MAC. I paid for the 3 yr tech support plan and I actually get to speak to someone in engish (not India english) like with a PC. Yeah PC's are way cheaper, but so is the CS.

PS is like a biiiig S.U.V.: capable of doing the Dakar rallye, yet 99% of 'm never do anything more demanding than getting the kids to school.... And 99% of their driver/owners don't have a clue how to properly navigate even the curbside outside their house with it! I agree with Chris. PS is VAST overkill for most.
