I love them both.I am interested in upgrading one of them but was wondering which program was better, paintshop pro X or photoshop elements 5? Does anyonehave an opinion?.There are things I like about them both but just was wondering what the concesus was. Thanks for any ideas.....

I don't really have experience with these programs, but maybe I can still help.

First of all, why do you want to update? Don't you already have the features you want between your two programs? And if you know of features you would like in one upgrade, why not just go with it?

Anyhow, I think both programs are very similar with maybe just a couple features differing between one and the other.

However, I use Helicon Filter and would like to let you know about it too. It's a lot like the two programs you are comparing (maybe it even has a few more features than PSP and Elements), it can do things like use retouching brushes, making HDRs, reducing noise, etc. Its current version doesn't support layers and can't click on a subject to use brushes only in that area, but the program develops so fast that I would expect these features to come along sooner or later. Anyhow, for $60 you can have unlimited updates, and I think that's less than PSP and Photoshop elements. You can download it from their site and try it out if you like. Its interface is a bit different from Photoshop (like Macintosh is to Windows).

Hope this helps!

OK, in that case I throw in PhotoLine32! An excellent photo editor that handles RAW. It's shareware with an unrestricted trial.

Get it here: http://www.pl32.com/

I already said my piece, but just to comment on pl32 if I may...
(Wow! It's a lot like Helicon! Helicon also handles RAW, you can use full version for 30 days (free version follows), etc, but Helicon doesn't show that trial screen all the time. I noticed that the PL32 format is also similar to Photoshop's and that it also makes vector graphics (like PSP?).

I downloaded pl32, tried it out, played with it. I really think that Helicon is better though. It's just more intuitive and seems a little easier to keep track of changes.

  Hello Teri,

Both programs get the job done.
The answer you seek will depend on who you ask.

Adobe PS at this time certainly reigns as the champ. Their position in the editing world is for many resons, although some claim it is due primarily to great marketing. Maybe; maybe not.

One thing IS for sure, support groups, magazines etc, are far more prevelent with Adobe PS than PSP.

Use what YOU are most comfortable with.

Pete
