Photography Question

Danielle E. Rutter

what my camera sees on my laptop

Oh I bet that title makes no sense...

I'm a spoiled photographer. At Lifetouch and Olan Mills I've never had to actually look through the camera. I use the tv monitor and frame the shot as such. That way, I can focus on getting the kids to smile and laugh and still take the photo. But I don't know how to do that with my own studio set up. And I don't want to use a monitor (too bulky to carry around) but my laptop. Is this possible??

Thanks!

Not with your Nikon D50. Digital SLRs don't give you a preview on the LCD or on your computer if you connect it.

You can probably do that with your Nikon Coolpix, but that's probably not the answer you're looking for.

How about a tripod and a remote shutter release?

Michelle - I have a tripod and remote. But I'm looking for a way to see what the camera sees on my laptop... live action. Apparently it's not possible.

I guess I could just frame it and hope the kid doesn't move too much. It's kinda what I do now, anyway. :P

This is just a crazy idea.....

how about your computer cam set upon your camera? It wouldn't be exactly the same, but maybe close enough? :O) I am laughing at myself already! LOL

your crazy idea isn't so crazy. I think it would work--would give a reference of what image the camera will take.

  That is an interesting idea...

I think I'll try to frame it, move aside to make the kid laugh and hope they don't move much, and frame it lose and see how that goes. If I'm way too spoiled to recover... then you might just see a camera attached to my camera. :)
