CS2 Problems with Raw function

Hi. I just installed CS2 on my new computer and when I try to open up an image shot in RAW, it tells me that it's not the right kind of document and it can't open it. I fervently hope the solution is simple because I no longer have the source CD for the programme!

The "RAW" file format is proprietary to each camera maker, and is updated with each new model. You probably do not have the latest version of Adobe's Camera RAW. See http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshop/cameraraw.html

Thanks so much for the swift reply! No, actually, in my first uploading of the programme, it worked (I was able to open a RAW image), but because of activation problems I removed the programme and installed it again. And everything was fine until I tried to open up a raw image. I've tried to open in All Formats and Camera RAW and it says it could not complete my request because it's "not the right type of document". I tried to open in Photoshop RAW, but none of the images appeared to open. I have a sick, sinking feeling that the RAW componant of the programme didn't download correctly, but am clinging to a dwindling hope that there's just something I have to activate...

I opened up the page that you provided the link to, but didn't quite understand, because I didn't see anything relevant to download. I must be missing something and sorry I'm so tech-impaired...

At the link, scroll down a little to "Supported Cameras". Click on either McIntosh or Windows depending on your system. That'll take you to the page for downloading the latest version of Camera RAW (v. 3.6).

Ah, okay, I saw that but realize that I should click on that. Have my old computer connected right now, but will try it as soon as I reconnect my new one! Thanks so much for your patience with dummies!

PhotoLine32 doesn't have such probs with RAW. It simply works. It's an excellent photo editor. Shareware with an unrestricted trial.

Get it here: http://www.pl32.com/.

Sounds interesting. Hard to believe anything could beat CS2, especially anything with unrestricted trial (you mean timewise?), but never hurts to try!

John, thanks so much. I updated it and now it will open my RAW pics---I'm finally set up on my new computer! I just want to say, perhaps for the umpteenth time that I am both grateful and impressed by BetterPhoto's swift and helpful repies to questions, as well as replies from so many helpful people. You've led me with great patience from my first digital point and shoot to my first DSLR, when I was terrified to change a lens or even hold it, not to mention puttihg up patiently with those first laughably basic questions, like "What's ISO?"

W.S., as I said in an email, I've downloaded the programme, and it looks interesting, but it doesn't give me the raw options box before opening the pic. Is there something I have to do for it to start doing that?
