Photography Question

Samantha L. Dean

Can/Should you resubmit same photos every month?

I was just wondering if we're supposed to continually resubmit some of the same photos we've previously submitted when we think they have merit?

You mean in the contest? I wouldn't say we're "supposed" to do it, but I know it's not against the rules, we CAN resubmit photos. I've done it a 2nd time on a photo or two that I was especially happy with but didn't get chosen, but after that I figure it's a dead horse, lol.

If it is a resubmission does it have to be noted as such? Thanks for responding! :-)

I just read the rules again, and found an old thread where Heather Young (a BP employee) was commenting on re-submitting and nothing was said about having to indicate that it's a resubmission.

A few people made a good suggestion though, of waiting at least a month in between resubmitting, since contest finalist notices come out very late into the next month usually.

One member said they entered a photo 3 times, and the 3rd it was a finalist. So I guess it's just personal preference on how many times you try a particular image!

As a side note, if you DO resubmit, the photo ID number is lower than new photos being submitted, so it will go to the beginning of the contest month's photos. Doesn't matter to the judges, just an FYI to you in case you look at the recently loaded images and don't see it there! :)

Thanks for all the information. I would surmise that the volume of photos being considered in the contest must leave some openings for resubmissions that were passed by previously. Thanks again!

I don't know whether it's true or not, but I heard a GP from some time back had been entered 3 times before it was noticed. Sometimes it pays to resubmit. I haven't had much luck doing that, but some do.

I've had several resubmits make it as finalists. There are so many going through, that sometimes a good one gets overlooked.
I don't usually do them real close together, wait a while in between resubmits.
And some of us get together in Feburary and resubmit all of our hold over stuff at once in the same month.

I try to enter something every day, and usually do 5-7 resubmits each month. It's tough to always find something new. :-) I have gotten several finalists on resubmits, often in a different category than the first time.

I really think it's because on any given month, there are just so many pictures to chose from, and some slip thru the cracks. So yes, keep resubmitting. I do think that if nothing happens after the 3rd time, that should be telling you something....

  It's kind'a like fishing.

You acquire that beautiful new lure that looks so perfect in the water that you keep on casting and casting it until you find a fish willing to eat it.
Then when you eventually get a bite, you will proclaim it as the ultimate...the end to all hunger as you know it.
In reality, you happened upon a fish that was less discerning than the rest of the school...or perhaps one that just got tired of seeing the same lure dragged past its nose time and time again and struck out of frustration.

It's true that re-submits have won or finalized but at what cost?
Everyone has had their prize "lures" refused but to keep re-submitting them clogs up the system and just creates more entries to be examined each month.

When you click that "Submit" button, you should be thinking that the judges will be saying "WOW!"...not, "Didn't I just see this last month?"

...maybe they might say "WOW...how did we miss this last month?" ;)

Right Corrine - only this month a second-place winner was passed over as even a finalist the month before, in the verys same category!

Wow Bob! I loved that analogy! Of course we all want the judges to say "WOW" whether it's a resubmit or not. After posing the question and weighing the responses, I would definately speculate that resubmitting could be beneficial due to the volume of photos. I don't think clogging up the system really applies as this is a photo contest entry site. I'm sure they expect a large number of entries. I would also agree that judgement on resubmits should be exercised and there can be such a thing as too much. :-) Thanks so much for all the information and opinions. :-)

I know of several people who have resubmitted and won; I guess it's a matter of personal choice. If you feel strongly about an image...resubmit it! And Bob, I respect your opinion on this but I'm confused by your comment....

"but to keep re-submitting them clogs up the system and just creates more entries to be examined each month."

It's likely those people would be entering the contest anyway, so what difference does it make if it's a "resubmit" or a "new image"? Still takes up space either way.

After viewing your galleries I realize how truly out of my league you all are. Loved all your galleries!!!!! I am hoping to learn and just enjoy photography. I have to admit it would be such a feeling of accomplishment to have just one of my photos chosen as a finalist! I don't see how that will ever happen after visiting your galleries but, I'm gonna keep on keeping on. :-)

Although I don't enter faithfully because I just forget... I've been a BP member for 3 or 4 years and have only had 2 finalists and 1 2nd place win, all on images that surprised me!! I didn't think they would turn any heads really. So you never know, keep at it. But always shoot for you, any recognition is just a bonus :-)
