How do the Featured Galleries in the Snapshot newsletter work? How do they choose the pictures?

  Hi Stephanie,
Thanks for your interest in the SnapShot newsletter. The galleries are comprised of contest winners and finalists - updated periodically (although it's a big project!!) - and instructor photos. Featured pics are chosen from the particular featured gallery by the newsletter editors and are almost always a past contest winner or finalist.

By the way, here's more about BetterPhoto's newsletters:

- The featured photos in the PhotoFlash and Digital Darkroom monthly newsletters are chosen by the editors, too. Those are contest finalists or winners, and the pics must include some helpful tips or insights from the photographer. Pics chosen for the Photo Discussions of Digital Darkroom and PhotoFlash often come from the contest, but not necessarily, and frequently instructor pics are among the selections. Again, all pics for the monthly newsletters must have both instructional and visual value!

- Images for the Photo of the Day newsletter are chosen from contest entries, and the Judges at BetterPhoto make the selections. A Photo of the Day is just us saying "Wow! Great photo!" and does not guarantee further success in the contest. In order to get a good balance of photos over a period of days and weeks - i.e., "traditional," digital art, color, black and white, landscapes, details, animals, etc. - some of the pictures are "held over" into the next month or two. Thus, although some photos may have a "contest finalist/winner" award attached to it, those particular images were actually chosen for POTD status BEFORE the final contest judging.

BetterPhoto's four newsletters are free for the asking ... check out the subscription page, which also includes archives to past issues.

Thanks again, Stephanie, for bringing up this subject!

Kerry
