Photography Question

Deborah Liperote

Is the 5D going down in price for a reason?

Well, I'm looking into buying the 5D. Wanted to know if anybody has heard anything, rumors.. whatever about something coming out by canon that will rival the 5D. It seems like the prices are starting to fall a little on them.

  there is nothing coming out.

the price is coming down because the 5d was inflated intentionally. this is all part of canons plan.

I have Nikons so I don't keep up with Canon but the D200 has only been out a year and has come down several hundred dollars now. I'm sure as slow as Nikon is there isn't an upgrade for the D20 yet so it's probably a marketing device to get more sales.

Hi Deborah – I own the 5D and purchased it not long after it was released. I LOVE this camera! I had noticed that the price has come down somewhat and wondered the same thing that you wonder. I asked the owner of my favorite camera shop (a guy who is really in the know and who generally can be relied upon to give me the honest scoop on such things) and was told that the price has dropped simply because the camera has now been out for a little over a year and the “newness” has worn off a bit and sales have slowed just a little. This sort of makes sense to me.

I too bought the 5D in January this year at the "inflated" price-I LOVE THIS CAMERA!! it is my first DSLR, but I am a long time Canon girl and had the lenes already for it. It is fast and great in low light situations and the full frame sensor is a big plus for me too.

I believe that a better version of the 5D will come out in the beggining of March. Alot of the pros are using the 5D with the top of the line 85mm 1.2 and gettting the results they strive for with digital.

Maybe the 5DmarkII

Rumor has it that a new body will be introduced at PMA, but I dont think it will replace the 5D.

Maybe a 3D

More FPS would be nice

I have a 20D and held the 5D today at a local store. It is heavier than the 20D. I also use the A-dep (20D) to take group shots and see that the 5D does not have this feature. It has something called a C mode? I have about 16 large parties lined up so I can afford to do this (especially with the rebate). I think I want the 24-110 lens? Many of the parties are in rooms that have low light...and crazy lights from DJs. Advice on this?

take them outside the room or talk to the DJ.

  Annette,
If the party is for the people your taking pictures of than the DJ should be able to work with you. If they hired you then they hired the DJ so he should be flexable. So by the way, let me know when you get the 5D...tell me what you think!

Good Morning Deborah. Traded my 20D and EFS Glass (plus more $$) for a 5D and 24-105 L IS USM Glass, in September of this year. The 5D and L Glass produces FANTASTIC results!!! Worth every cent! Highly recommend you consider the purchase of the 5D and what L glass you need for your purposes. You Will Not Be Disappointed, whatever price you pay for it! Best Wishes for the New Year, Glenn.

I was told by the dude that runs canon that there is nothing coming out to replace the 5d. the exact words was that 'there are no plans for the 5d, and production is continuing as normal'.
