Photography Question

Kodak POTD - how to get Times Sq pic?

I know there's been some Kodak POTD winners on here before, did anyone find a good way of getting a photo of the display board in Times square? I've got one coming up on Weds and can't travel to NYC to gawk in Times Square like a tourist :-)

Sometimes at night you can catch a glimps of the screen on one of the earthcams for time square. GL and congrats.

Congrats Jane! My daughter (14yrs old!) just got notified today that one of her pictures will be the POTD on friday the 15th! I'm wondering the same thing. I found in a prior thread that a woman in NYC will take photos of it for a small fee. I'm checking out her website now.

Maybe you could reach her tonight and have her get some for you?

Brenda

Thanks for all the feedback on and off this thread. The earthcam link seems to be the only webcam, though I heard it can take hours to catch the display at the right moment!!

Brenda- I saw your daughter's photo on another thread, what a great photo and very deserving of the POTD, she must be very pleased.

The NYC photographer that was mentioned above: I had her take photos earlier in the year. Her charge was $100 at the time and the photos were just about unuseable without extenstive editing.

She took the photos early in the morning hours that may have been the reason (the lighting issues) for the poor photographs. She was unable to go to the Times Square to take photos in the afternoon and evening hours.
You may want to check on these things if you find a photographer to take photos for you.

If you just want to have a record that your picture was chosen, you can always go to their site and look for the previous POTD and print the page out yourself.

A hundred dollar for just one picture and is not even useable. Ouch.

She takes about 40 to 50 photos from different angle and burns a CD for you.
But, yah, right,...in this case, I couldn't give her the full price.

What you want the phtotographer to do if the he or she is willing to do, is to take the photos at the different time of the day, including daytime and late evening or night hours. Personally, I like the night shots.

If anyone interested, here's the sample of what they may be like, including the actual shots and screen capture of Kodak page and the webcam: click here .

I just received news that one of my shots was chosen for December 22nd! I'm very excited and would love to have a few shots of my picture up on the screen. I'd be interested to hear what you decided to do Jane.

Hi all! My daughter's picture is the POTD today! I've been sitting for over two hours watching the earthcam, #3 waiting... and I finally got a glimpse of it. Due to the images cycling on the screen & the cameras changing all the time I kept missing it! haha

sahadeva@sahadeva.com here is an email for a very nice person who is taking pictures of her image today for me. I don't know what they will look like, but I couldn't convince her to miss school & practice to go see it, so I'm paying him to get me some shots. :) As soon as I get them, I'll post so you can see his work.

Congrats Tamera! I can't wait to see your image too!

Thanks to Ross's advice I got a couple of screen captures from the cam3 at earthcam, works best during the darker hours - thanks Ross!
Also a kind soul off this BP site who happened to be in Manhattan that day managed to get some great close up shots for me :-)

Wow Jane, that sounds like a dream come true! How much do they pay you every time its shown? Kodak is a big company so I'm sure its great. Your name will be up in lights. How did that become possible? I would love to see my picture up one day.

Thanks Brenda. I'm very excited! My name in lights in Times Square - this is a once in a lifetime chance. My Picture of the Day can be found in my gallery titled - Poinsettia Heart. It's next to the Purple and Gold flower shot.
