Photography Question

This is the before and after of a picture I wanted to cut the older girls out of (because the babies looked so cute by themselves). My question is, is there an easy way to do this? I used the magnetic lasso to highlight the area I wanted to keep. Then I pasted it on a plain picture of the backdrop. But there were some dark areas around the edge and some jagged areas that I had to go back and erase. Also, I have tried this with other pictures. Older children who have hair, it seems impossible to transfer those kinds of pictures to a different background or use this method to remove objects or people. Is there an easier way?

Hi there Grace, I came here for another reason and saw that your post was un-answered.

What you are attempting to do is difficult, there is no easy way I am afraid.

What editing programme do you use? Then I will see if I can come up with a video.

Are you on broadband?

Thanks for answering Pat. I am on broadband. I use Corel Paint Shop Pro. I have Photoshop as well, but not a very updated version. Any suggestions you have for me are appreciated!
