Photography Question

Debbie Del Tejo

AOL'S ADVICE ...READ LAST LINE

Money-Saving Tips: Just buy the class picture. And don't even consider placing an order during the spring session, when many schools host a secondary picture day. If you just can't resist, purchase the smallest package possible. At the Clark School in Swampscott, Mass., parents can spend as little as $24 for a few wallet-size photos and one of the class. The bill rises to more than $50 if parents splurge for a package that includes a couple of 5-by-7s. Worried you won't have a spare to send to Grandma? Consider scanning your copy or email a cute digital shot you took yourself.

CONSIDER SCANNING YOUR COPY...

Pretty soon it will be mom taking the class photos and printing them at home...who needs a photographer any more.
This is so sad...

This IS sad, but even sadder to think people think it's OK, cheating the photographer out of well-earned money.

No...... But maybe I'm the weirdo. We had this same discussion in my speech class. No one thought it was wrong. "Everyone does it" philoshophy.

So Deb, why don't you write or call AOL and lodge some kind of formal complaint about it and send a copy to the federal trade commission and the fcc??? If I had an aol account, I'd do it.

C'mon Greg, all kidding aside, whatever bonehead at AOL wrote that probably did it without thinking (or knowing) which is typical I hear, of AOL until someone complains and they change the wording or policy.

a bunch of people have already written AOL and complained, and the AP was notified, I believe, as it was an AP writer.

But seriously - before I got into photography I didn't understand the concept of "stealing" a photo. There was an especially cute one of my nephew that my sister had done and all the prints had gone to the grandparents and great grandparents. I took it to Wal-Mart to scan it with her and was shocked and outraged that I wasn't allowed to scan a print copies of a photo of a child that belonged to MY FAMILY!!! I'm not taking up for the world at large here, but I do think a lot of people don't realize that prints are how most photographers make their money. Now me - I charge for my time and talent and let the clients have the digital edited negatives and I have them printed at Miller's for them at cost. But charging $50 per shot, I get my money, a lot of money, one time and up front. Back to the point - I'm actually really and truly a sexy beast.... :>)

What's sad is the quality a lot of these photographers offer to families. I never had a decent school photo in my life, and I just took some shots of a young lady today so she could have some decent photos to pass around after hers were botched at school. Granted, photographers at school don't have a lot of time and it's a harsh environment to get a good photo, but I'd way rather take my own. :-) And a lot of moms I know can do better than the school photographers. Time, knowing the child, and now being able to delete the stinkers is a big advantage...

K....

After we deal with Sipho's narcissism, can we try and tackle Debbie's low self esteem issues?
