Ariz Professional Photographers Assn I have a friend in Arizona, not in BP, that asked if I could find out if anyone knew about the Arizona Professional Photographers Association. Their web address is http://www.arizonappa.com/. I know there are many sites out there that seem legit, but they request lots of money to sign up. And they give out awards. But again, I'm not sure if it's a big deal to win an award from this site. Thanks for any help you can provide. v/r Ken Smith

Ken, what would you like to know about it? Site seems pretty legit. I mean it is a professional photographers association so of course membership prices seem a little steep. Is this friend in Arizona just looking for some contests to get some awards? This probably isn't the place, and that's not really what a professional photographer's association is about. It's about networking, and seminars, and learning, something to help with advertising as well. "John Doe is a nationally acclaimed photographer and is a member of the Arizona Professional Photographer's Association, the Professional Photographer's of America, and the Wedding Photojournalist Association." It's a status thing for lack of better words. And also most of those organizations don't just accept your money and say you're a member, a lot of the that I read about require a portfolio to be reviewed and you have to be approved by a board or something like that. That's all. I'd be safe to bet that it's a perfectly legit place, just not a "photography contest" site which is what it seems like you're friend is looking for. Help any?

Yes Justin, that helps. I'm also hoping others on BP know about this specific site. I'm hoping you're correct. I've been involved, and am aware of other sites, that come across as "professional", and they're really not. But you don't know it until you sink your money into it.
