color quality on my Nikon D100

I shoot with a Nikon 100 set at II color mode, using a Sigma 28-300 lens. My color quality is very dull and lifeless; primary colors on my prints are not bright at all. An suggestions?

If you are not using Photoshop to process what I call your digital negs, set your D100 to Mode III and you will see that will punch up your colors quite a bit.

  Maybe it's your lens.

If you have access to a few prime Nikkors, try shooting a few test frames of a brightly colored subject. (A box of crayons works great for this.)
Then shoot the same composition in the same light with your Sigma lens set at the same focal length(s) as the Nikkors.

When you examine and compare the results of both on a calibrated monitor, you will be able to determine if your Sigma is able to interpret colors accurately.
