Jpeg error

All

Just wondering if anyone has come across this error before after editing and saving a jpeg, I will go back into it and it will say:

"Invalid Jpeg market, unable to open file"

I then can't open the file no matter how much I try, in any package etc. I just don't understand it. I could of had that image on my computer for months, opened and closed it etc, with no problems then all of a sudden, bang - I get this error. I also noticed, that once I get it, it will happen quite often. Ie I was editing a bunch of wedding photos in Tiff format. Finished and converted them to jpeg. I noticed on about 6 or so, that I wasn't still very happy with the lighting, so I opened them and adjusted the levels, saved and closed, then all those files I edited - I couldn't re-open, I had to get them from the orignal files and edit them all over again (praying it didn't happen again).

Any thoughts?

I would guess that somehow that particular file got corrupted. If you had the file on a CD it is possible that the disk is bad, if that is the case then I would take all the photos off that CD, open them to see if they are ok and put them on a new CD. If it is just one file causing this problem I wouldn’t worry about it.

The error is certainly of hardware, not software. So, it has anything to do with the way the files are edited.
Data corruption could occur in many ways.
In this case, my guess is that during the write cycle, bit pick/drop could have occured. Computer glitch is always annoying especially when technology fails.

  I just don't understand.

Firstly:

The file was never copied from the CD (only backed up onto it), as I worked off the files on the computer (saved straight from the CF cards). They were fine for months, no worries, then all of a sudden - bang, couldn't use them. Then I would go in and see if the ones on the CD were bad, and they were bad too.

Secondly, I don't have the internet at home, so I can't get any viruses - I don't save anything to my computer except photos I have taken or files I have created.

I have a feeling it has something to do with Adobe Bridge. Cause it has only happened to files I have batch processed in Bridge.
