Photography Question

Toby Smith

Critique form

I’m not sure if this is the correct form for this, if it’s not please feel free to move it.

Good day all, I just finished critiquing some images in the Critique form and noticed that the images that had no critiques were being pushed off the front page by images with many responses just so people could say congratulations. I don’t think it’s wrong to recognize those that have done well in the competition, but I think doing this does a disservice to the people looking for help by pushing their images off the page. These forms should be set up so the last image to get a response doesn’t go to the top allowing images with little or no responses to stay on the front page a little longer.
Thank you.
Toby

How about loading images into your gallery so we can comment on them and get them to the "top" ? I'm sure that I don't speak just for myself when I say "I would like to see your work."

  Toby,
Please post some of your work in your gallery so we can see, & comment on it.
You will also notice that sometimes the posts do stray a bit off topic, sorry.

Hi Toby, I agree it would be nice if images that only received "friendly praise" would not take up space in the "constructive critique" forum. However, you quickly learn how to identify those and move on to the next one without wasting your time clicking on them. Some of them receive upwards of 50 comments and keep rotating to the top.

I've also learned that once finalists are announced many older images pop back up to the top because of all the "conratulation" messages they receive. It's a quirk of the system, but I've found it easy to get used to.

I've actually used it to my advantage too. Many times when I post an image that I would truly like critiqued, it quickly gets buried by those "friendly praise" images. When that happens and I haven't received the response for which I was looking, I just add a comment to my own image which forces it back to the top.

BP has many quirks, but overall it's a very helpful and sometimes entertaining site!

I enjoyed your post and agree.

Thank you all for responding to my post, I don’t want this to sound conceded, but I’m not looking for critiques on my images, I was just trying to make it easer for those that truly want help to get it. I can understand others wanting to see my images to see if I know what I’m talking about, but when I critique an image it is just my opinion and should be taken as such. I plan on making my retirement income by selling my images so I chose not to post them on the internet until I have a chance to get them registered with the U.S. copy right office. There are many people wanting constructive critiques on their images and aren’t getting them because their posts are getting pushed off the first page too quickly. Here is an idea for everybody that posts a WOW to an image look for one that has zero or a few responses and comment on that. If you know enough to know what makes an image a WOW image you can also tell someone what you think might make their image better.

i think we all got that toby.yet we or i,have no cure for the problem, and a continuing problem it is,but a fix i/we don't have.
yours is not a new idea.da-duh.this is a member issue, and should be resolved with a certain amount of ethics,by the members themselves.
there is a path of credibility that some don't wish to take,as in life itself.so here we are.
you can sound conceited all you want, but if it doesn't have a good set of wings,it won't fly.
me?i just say what I want,sam
