Right to post military photos

Im a Marine photographer/journalist and I wanted to post some of the shots ive taken (as part of my job) on websites like deviantart. I dont want to sell them, but I want to post them so I can get feedback on my shots.

Ive been doing it about a year, and am thinking about trying to get into studio/professional work when I get done with my service.

I know that the photos I take are release on usmc.mil and are free for any one to use (even magazines and newspapers). Am I allowed to post them on sites?

That is really a question you need to take back to the Marines. I did a quick glance at the marines.mil site but from what I see you really need to ask the Marines about this one. It’s one thing to approve for release to the media, but you need to find out what restrictions the Marines has on its own personnel publishing photos and what approval procedure you need to follow. I’m somewhat surprised this hasn’t already been addressed by the Marines to their photographers.

Semper Fi Randy. Like Raymond said, it is probably a question for the Corps. I would think they own the rights to those photos and any reproduction would need to go through them. Thanks for your service bud. I was in from 79-83 at El Toro.
