The Canon EF lens mount is their standard Autofocus mount. An EF lens will mount on any Canon EOS film SLR or Canon EOS digital SLR. The Canon EFS lenses are designed to work with EOS digital SLRs that have a digital sensor that is smaller than a 35mm film frame. The cameras that use these lenses are the Digital Rebel (300D), Rebel XT (350D), Rebel XTi (400D), 20D, and 30D. EFS lenses project a smaller image onto the digital sensor than standard EF lenses do, so for that reason, they won't work well with film cameras or digital cameras that have full-size digital sensors. These include the 5D, and all of the 1D variations. The EFS mount is designed so that the lens can't be physically mounted to these cameras. EFS lenses also won't mount to older Canon EOS digital SLRs, like the D30, D60, and 10D. Even though these cameras have reduced-size sensors, The EFS mount was designed after these cameras, so it won't fit. Does this answer your question? Chris A. Vedros
