Photography Question

Grace Watts

Which Category?

I want to enter this photo into the contest, but I'm not sure which category I should enter it into. I used the zoom while taking the picture (Special Effects category?), but I also used paintshop pro to enhance the eye color and convert the rest of the photo to black and white (Digital Darkroom category?). Any suggestions? Thanks, Grace

If you got the lines by doing something with the camera, special effects, and explain what you did exactly.

If the lines were made in photoshop, Digital Darkroom.

Good luck!

Thank you. I entered it in special effects.

You might want to clean up the image before submitting it. I detect several dark spots, which are the result of a dirty sensor in your camera.

I didn't even notice them until you pointed it out..probably because my computer screen is so dirty. I already submitted it...oh well. Thank you for pointing that out, I will get my camera cleaned up.

No law says you can't submit it again. I think.

  Definately Digital Darkroom.

The primary point of interest was created during post-processing.

So maybe I should resubmit the cleaned up version in Digital Darkroom? I had this other version of the same photo I was going to submit in that category. Which one is better, or should I submit them both? I really appreciate all this feedback, I'm pretty new at all this but very excited to learn all I can!

For some reason the photo went into my gallery instead of the message...I don't know what I did wrong. It's called "Eye of the Storm." Sorry about that.

BP's not great about posting images to threads. I'm still not clear: were all those lines made in-camera somehow? If they were made on the computer, digital darkroom is the definitely right choice.

Eye of the Storm goes in digital darkroom for sure.

The photos need to be sharper to win, though.

I'm sorry I wasn't clear. I was trying to zoom (either in or out, I can't remember which one) while I was taking the picture. That is how I got the lines. I slowed down my shutter speed, too much I think. It is too bright and a little blurry. After reading your message I tried to sharpen it up some. In the first picture I only changed the colors on the computer. I'm still learning how to use the software. It's okay if it doesn't win, I had fun. Until recently I have mostly taken children and family portraits. I'm trying to expand my horizens! Thank you for your comments.

That's pretty cool! I would think the first one should go in special effects and the second in digital darkroom. I think the lighting is pretty okay in both.
