lighting and backgrounds for a photoshoot i am a hairdresser, and a photographer at heart. I would love to take my own pictures for my portfolio, but have not really a clue on where to begin with glamour shots. I have lighting available to me, but am wondering about placement of lighting for what specific purposes.

I highly recommend going to the bookstore and picking out a book on portrait photography and lighting. There are so many things you can do with it ... a book with details and examples will help a lot. And/or consider taking a class here.

Ditto. I've seen so many books on portrait lighting that show the finished shot and then give you diagrams and settings as to how it's done. Go to Barnes & Noble and have a gander...
