Uploading Photos...

Hello. More often than not, I am getting a PAGE CAN NOT DISPLAY message when I attempt to submit a photo to the monthly contest. I'd say that I have been having about a 70% failure rate. Can't figure out why it works sometimes and doesn't work most of the time. Anyone have a solution to this frustrating problem? I sure would appreciate the help.

Thank you.

Ray

Raymond, the only thing I can figure is that you are trying to load too large of a file. Make sure you are trying to load a jpeg rather than tiff. If this isn't the case, you may want to e-mail Heather Young here at BP. She will direct you to your answer.

  Hi Margie,

Thank you for taking the time to respond. I've checked all the files and they are all the right size and format. I have contacted Heather and she hasn't been able to figure the problem out either. Just thought I'd give the forum a shot in the hopes that someone else may have had (and solved) a similar problem. Thanks again for your response, I do appreciate it.

Best of luck,

Ray

  Hi Ray,
Sorry that you have encountered uploading problems. Margie's first thought was a good one - too big of a file. That's often the uploading failure culprit. But since you have the right size and format, here are some other things that might be helpful:

- Try uploading just one photo - perhaps two - at a time. Yes, the system is set up for multiple uploads, but sometimes one pic at a time may go through while several do not. This would apply to uploads for a gallery, Deluxe Site, or class.

- A reminder: The contest has a one-entry-per-day limit - so attempted second entries on a particular day would be rejected.

- On the first uploading page, click on the Single Image Uploader option ... and upload the "old-fashioned" way! When BetterPhoto added the default drag-and-drop uploader to the BetterPhoto system a while back, it was decided to keep the old version as an option too. It turns out that some BP members actually prefer the old system, but more important is this: When the default drag-and-drop uploader just doesn't seem to be performing properly, often the Single Image Uploader does!

- BTW, regarding uploading quality, some BP members find that sizing an image at 480 pixels on the short side (rather than the suggested 500) results in better quality.

Just a few thoughts, Ray ... hope this works for you!
Kerry

Sometimes if it is being really snarky, you can go back and change the title of your shot (or change it's format from jpg to tif or vise versa) and then it will work. Don't ask me why, since I'm not very computer oriented, but it does work. I had to do that with my shot today.

Thanks for the additional suggestion, Carolyn. Always good to know another workaround for uploading!
