Photography Question

Printed pictures too small

Can anyone help. I have a some photo's I want to down size to fit onto an A$ sheet so that I can print them and put them into a large multi picture frame. here's the problem. the original picture when I go to down size it is 9.8 x 24.7 cm with 118 pixels/cm. when I change this to 6 x 9 cm, keeping the same pixels, then drag this onto a new A4 sheet, it prints out a 4 x 6 cm. the new backgroud page is sized at 21 x 29 with 300 pixels also. As you can guess I am new to all this, I am using photoshop. Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong as at the moment it feels like a guessing game to get it right. I have the same issue with any picture of any size I try with.

I'm not sure what you're doing by what you described, but anytime you paste a picture onto a new background, they need to be the same resolution so that the picture you move over retains it's size. If they aren't the same resolution, then the picture size will change.
So whatever you mean by keeping the same pixels, if you resize without resampling, whatever the picture's resolution ends up being, make your new background that same resolution.
That way, you make the background the sized to the final print you're going to make. And you make the picture the size you want, and it will stay that way when you paste it to the background.

Thanks Gregory, I think I understand, but I may have over complicated my question so forgive me if I repeat myself, hopefully this will make things a bit clearer.
After I have resized my pic down to 6 x 9 with a resolution of 300 dpi, I then drag this onto an A4 new page which is also 300 dpi. however when I print this the picture comes out at 4 x 6, not 6 x 9. in short the printed picture is smaller than I want it to be. The idea being that I can resize several pictures and print them all out onto the same A4 sheet.

Sounds like something set wrong in the printing properties, maybe.
Just to be sure, you can double check that the size of the background is set right by checking canvas size under 'Image' in the top tool bar. Or ctrl-R will bring up a ruler along the edges to check to make to see if the picture is staying 6x9 after it's pasted on the background.
Otherwise, check printing properties to make sure that's set to print on A4 sized paper. Maybe the default is set to something smaller and the printer is shrinking to fit. Or maybe your maybe your printer prints to have a border, and if may need to set for borderless printing, if your canvas size is exactly A4 size.
Although for that, I wouldn't expect a 6x9 to go down to 4x6.
That's all I can think of for now.

Yeap. I think i'm sorted now thanks Gregory, after running through every thing you said in your first post, it looks like I had my resolutions mixed up. I down sixed a pic and printed it first, that as fine then, I pasted it onto my new background and that was fine too.. so again, thanks.. up the resolution. lol
