Photoshop in Special Effects? This has sort of been asked before but is there any difference between the Digital Darkroom and Special Effects? I thought Special Effects was for non-Photoshop effects but looking at this month's finalists, where in several the only effect is a Photoshop applied one, that obviously isn't true. So what is the difference?

Digital Darkroom is supposed to be Photoshop or other effects..Special Effects is supposed to be for in camera effects, but they seem to let it slide most of the time. That's why it's my opinion if they aren't going to enforce it, the two should be combined and then they would have room for that 'catchall' or maybe still life like everybody is always complaining about. There are so few entries relatively in SpFX that it seems a waste of a category that could be doing more good for more people.

Glad I'm not the only one wondering about that---ie, that "Special Effects" often contains entries that would in fact be considered "Digital Darkroom" (based on BP's description of the two.) SE seems like a rather limited category---Camera motion, double-exposure, camera zoom during exposure, perhaps specific lens filters (like a star filter) and some other tricks you could try on longer exposure times... I was a little surprised to see a SE Finalist where the photo's description included "motion blur applied in PS"---but it was entered in SE, not DD. Perhaps the 2 should be combined into "SE/DD"... But I am loathe to suggest a new category to fill the vacancy---there are whole threads dedicated to category choices here ;)
