Canon 18-55 Lens Anyone heard of problems with the gears in the autofocus stripping out?

I haven't heard of this lens being any more susceptable than any other cheap kit lens. The gearing in many of these lenses are plastic and can be damaged if one attempts manual focus with the AF/MF switch set to AF, or hold/restrict the turning front element when autofocusing.
