Promotion ideas...

I was just curious, when you were first starging, how did you get your name "out there" so people would contact you for photos?

I have already had one customer (aerial photo session though) and have a potential three more on the way. Two are through work (The FBO I work for wants to use some of my images on different websites for their advertisements, and another image they're actually going to turn into a Vynal decal to place on their newest helicopter) and one was just by talking to a buddy at work who needs to sell his aircraft. (Fairchild FC-2 in flying condition--of about 3 left in the world)

I have a few ideas right now but would really love to hear what helped you guys out.

Idea number:

1. Leave a portfolio with about 10-15 8x10 images (no more than that) in the upper office where all transient pilots, student pilots, and everyone else has to stop and check in. I will have a cover letter of some sort along with business cards. People are always just sitting around waiting for an instructor or whatever in the lounge area. May as well be checking out some sweet pics taken at their very own airport! And probably of the very aircraft they will be flying!

2. Thinking about creating a some kind of custom calendar (maybe the desktop calendar through VistaPrint.com??) that would have my contact info on every page to distribute to every FBO/Flight school that will accept. The idea behind this is that I have the resources to produce custom calendars for each individual client as well.

3. I'm designing a tri-fold brochure that I can easily re-produce in large numbers if need-be.

4. Also thinking of running a 3-month add on the WPA website (Washington Pilots Association--which I am currently a member of) since that targets the precise area I will be working in.

Other than just telling the pilots I come in contact with throughout the day about my services, the above is about all I can afford right now.

Anyway, I would really like to hear some of the things you guys did (do) to help get your name out there in the early stages. And let me know if this is totally stupid and I have it all backwards. haha!

Oh and one last one that just seemed more fun just for me is creating a screensaver to freely pass out on the internet with my logo/contact info all over it. (but not in a tacky way)
