Photography Question

Chuck Redick

Technique

I once heard that if someone's style inspires you, learn it, then make it your own. I found the technique that I LOVE, but I'm not sure how to accomplish it. Some of it is with fisheye, there's great use of depth of field and lighting. They're probably members here, and I hope it's ok to even ask about how they're doing it! Their site is www.theimageisfound.com.
Any help you can offer is greatly appreciated! I'd love to get practicing!

I think what you're referring to Chuck is a form of what's called "plagiarism". Perhaps what you mean is to find someone's style that inspires you, learn what technique(s) they employed to make those images, and then go on to experiment on your own and develop your own particular style.

I've been shooting for about 35 years and while I have various basic techniques I use in various situations, my style is constantly evolving as an art form, I guess it should, right? So, what are you waiting for? Start practicing, keep some notes, see what you like and don't like about your own work, go about fixing your technique and continue to analyze the work of others and see how they shot it, whether it involves depth of field or use of light, or filters, etc. etc.
Take it light. ;>)

Mark - QED, "that which was to be demonstrated" :-) I wrote that after saying in another thread that we have a somewhat annoying person who posts under various names, usually with a freshly created account or an older one with no gallery, just to stir things up on the forum. As soon as I posted that this thread popped up, and as you can see a variety of others such as Estella which are suspect as well, if you do a forum search on their names you'll find they have no history of asking questions then suddenly get all vocal today. Coincidence?

If anyone reading this thread really does want to learn technique then rather than asking members to explain someone else's technique they would do better to find members who's technique they like and ask them directly with specific questions. In my opinion :-)

BTW Mark, thanks so much for your very patient and valuable responses! I always read your posts carefully.

  Ok...let me explain myself! *blush*.
First of all, I'm certainly not meaning to plagiarise! I didn't quite say it right. I'd love to learn that style and technique, and by 'make it my own', I meant add my own style to it. I would never want to 'steal' someone elses style and pass it off as mine. I don't think there was any way I could 'duplicate' Jane's work anyway!
Secondly, Jane I actually did send an email to you on your website yesterday! I got a nice response back from your husband.
Also, I did just start this account as I thought it might be a good way to learn more about the style...that prompted me to sign up as I've also been meaning to take some of the classes online too.
So I'm embarrassed, but I hope I've explained a little better! *blush*

Whatever else you lack you do have a fertile imagination :-) I can imagine your photography might actually be interesting if you ever decided to get your kicks that way instead.

Ok, after a number of emails back and forth clearning up confusion, let me once again apologize for this confusion being on my part. I'm certainly not trying to 'get my kicks', but I thought you were someone else. I thought you were with the website I was talking about initially. I DID email the folks at that website and got a nice reply back from them. Jane, when you responded earlier, I thought you were the other half of that team (her name also starts with a 'J' too)...I was confused and said it was YOUR husband that had emailed me back. I didn't make any of this up, but I just was confused on who I was talking with in this thread.
Again, I'm sorry for my confusion, and I look forward to participating on this site in a much more positive way!

My apologies too Chuck, it was my mistake to start with and then your confusion over who you emailed made me think you weren't being honest. Glad we sorted that out and look forward to seeing some of your work!
