What is this new 'Pro Critique It' button? I uploaded a new photo and noticed there is now a new button - Pro critique it - just wondering what this is and how it works. Thanks

Yeah, what a deal. A very good deal, actually. You want a pro photographer to critique your images for free????? That pro could be out doing something else to make money rather than sit and provide a critique of a persons images. Remember, a pro makes their living doing photography. Sitting down and providing a critique takes time away from other productive activities. They should be compensated for their time and expertise on the subject. $80 is actually pretty cheap.

That's $80 per photo I believe. Whether it's worth it depends on the level and depth of critique. If the critiques provide an insight into some fundamental issues or just to take you to the next level in terms of your photography then it may well be. It is hard to get good critique, the best photographers are usually too busy to give it! :)

No, it says $79 for "up to 8 photos". It's not a per-photo charge. I agree with Jerry, it's not really expensive, since you're getting a real published professional who writes books and teaches classes to give you a real critique. We can gush over each other's pictures all day and still not really learn what we need to improve. Chris A. Vedros

I tried selecting 2 photos, went to the checkout, and the total charge was about $160. I think they mean you can submit up to 8 at once.

If it's charging $79 per photo, then either the explanation is unclear, or the shopping cart isn't programmed correctly. In the FAQ, it says: A: $79 to have up to 8 photos critiqued by a professional. Plus, you receive a coupon for $20 off any of our online photography courses. Chris

I spent the money to have 8 of my photos critiqued. To me it was well worth it. The critiques came back within a day and it was obvious the pro that looked at it took his time and gave me a very objective critique. I firmly believe the only way to get better is to be judged properly.

Sounds good, was it $80 for 8 or $80 each?

I am not an apologist for BP – Jim and his crew can defend their website, classes and the rest; however, I have to say that I get more than a little tired of seeing how some continually criticize this site and yet continue to come here. First: yes, this is a business! Of-course, the folks here want to make money with this business! When was the first, last or any time that you went into a shop and got angry because the owner suggested that you purchase something? You can “window shop” this site all you want; you can even use much of this site without paying one cent. If you want, and only if you want, you can pay for a class; a premium gallery and pro critiques. No one is forcing anyone to buy these things in order to be permitted to remain here in this “store”. I am sure that there are many people here who have never spent a dime at this site and yet, who continue to post their images; participate in the forums and otherwise make good use of this service. There is nothing wrong with this, I think everyone has the right to use or not use the services that BP offers, I just think that it is more than a little rude to attack Jim and Co because they are trying to run the site like a brick and mortar business. If you dislike what the site is about, then why do you keep coming here? Meanwhile, the page for the critiques states that you may upload 8 images for $79 and that the person critiquing your images will be one of the working pros here. I agree with Chris and Jerry – it is a good deal and I may take advantage of it in the future. Right now, I just completed an excellent course here at BP – another offering that no one has to take advantage of to stay here. End of rant! Irene

Well said Irene. I paid $80 to have 8 photos critiqued. Tony Sweet did the honors on my shots. He did a critique the way I prefer pointing out good, bad and suggested ways to possibly improve. It was a very positive experience that I will use to improve. I don't recommend it to you if you are thinned skinned or easily discouraged. It is simply a tool for improvement.

I just tried it again and it's now only charging $80 when I select 2 photos, must've been a glitch earlier. $80 seems very reasonable for 8 photos in my opinion.

I agree with Irene. Too many people think that everything on the "net" should be free. The price does seem reasonable when you think about the amount of time it could take them.

Would anyone be willing to post an example photo with the critique? I was just wondering how detailed and helpful it will be for $10 per photo. Or does that depend on who you get to critique?

Would it be possible to upload full size photos to be critiqued at that price? Can they really critique the smaller versions we see here on Bp properly? You can't really see sharpness or noise that way. Just wondering, I think it's a wonderful idea.
