Photography Question

Donna Dunbar

How do I fade text without fading the image?

I want to apply copyright info to some images without blocking the view of the image and wanted to apply text. The problem I am having is fading the text without fading the image.I am Using Photoshop 7. I'm sure there is an easy way to do this but I haven't figured it out yet.Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Put the text in it's own layer, then fade just that layer.

There is also a free program called Picture Shark that allows batch processing of images. You can adjust the opacity and the position of your copyright or watermark or what ever you are using.

You can create a new brush. Make your copyright as you want it then save it as a brush. You can put it wherever you want on the pic, change it's color, size, opacity etc.

Thanks for your suggestions everyone I don't mean to sound ungrateful but I can't figure out how to do anything that you've suggested.Sorry I'm so dense but I have to either be shown or given the step by step instructions.I like the idea of saving the copyright info as a brush but can't figure out how to do it.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, but this is pretty easy. I use PS7 also so these instructions should work just right for you.

Now for the good part. Open a picture, click on the brush tool in the tool box. Scroll down to find your new copyright. Click on it. Now you can use the eyedropper tool to choose a color, look up in the menu, then set the size, opacity etc and just place the copyright where you want and left click. TADA your done. If you don't like it just edit, undo and change any settinngs, ie: color, opacity etc and put it back on the on the picture.

I try to use a color already in the picture somewhere, it makes it to be not so overwhelming. Let me know how it turns out.

Now that was wierd, everything was there BUT the instructions.

Sorry to take so long to get back to you, but this is pretty easy. I use PS7 also so these instructions should work just right for you.

Open PS

Go to file, click on new to open a blank PS Document

Choose the size for the document, I use a standard 4X6 with 300dpi. Make sure transparent is checked under contents. Click OK

Click on the 'T' in the tool box to open a text document on the new PS document

Hold down the alt key, type in 0169. This will place the copyright symbol in the text box.

Type in what you want. I use fmackenzie06 ( name and year )

Go back to the tool box and click on the marquee tool. This will delete the text box, but not your text.

Go up to the edit tab and click on it. Scroll down to 'define brush' and click on it.

Name your brush ( I use same as copyright info ) Notice what number is also assigned to the brush to help you find it later.
Click OK

Close document. You do not need to save it.
