Photography Question

Irene Troy

Traveling to MI and MN - what to see?

Here is a question that belongs in that hope to be created forum: advice on travel locations (Gee, Jim – don’t you think we need a spot here to discuss what to see/do in various locations?????????? – yes, you do need more to worry about!!!) But, since we do not have that catagory - I just picked a catagory and posted here!

In a couple of weeks I am heading to the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Minnesota for a couple of jobs. Because of the timing for these jobs I will have about a week in between in which to explore new areas. I am somewhat familiar with both areas, but would love to know of some lesser known areas in which to explore. So, are there BP members here from this area? What special places do you know about that I might not have read about or seen on a map?

Thanks for any input

Irene

If you haven't been to Mackincac Island, definately try to fit it in.

I've always wanted to see Isle Royale NP but that's a bit more than a side trip.

  Mackinac Is.

Make sure if you go to the island, get off the beaten path. Travel (by bike) the the Northern side of the island..Photo ops galore! No people, no cars, no noise..Gotta' love it.

I'll second Ely Minnesota. I was just there at Lake Shagawa last summer and it was awesome. You can see some pictures in my gallery. I need to go back sometime and go fishing early in the morning. It's great because people put the houses back from the lake so it doesn't disturb the view. I'm still kicking myself for not bringing my camera out on a 6am fishing trip. There were about 3 or 4 islands that you could see that morning but there was fog so thick that you couldn't see the opposite side. Would have been an awesome pictures. Anyway, yeah check out Ely if you can the chance.

If you go to Ely, make sure it's not winter! You'd freeze your camera not to mention your delicate self!
