Environment I was just wondering about how much the cold and humidity could affect a digital camera. I have an HP 315 Photosmart and I really enjoy taking pictures and leaning photography on my own. Howerver I live in Canada in the prairies and in winter it can get down to -40 F without the windchill and below -50 with the windchill. The only problem for me is that these unusually cold days can provide really nice shots of the trees and bushes with hoar frost on them. Have any of you heard of cameras breaking from using them in certain environments? Thanks alot. James

In such cold as that, I think your batteries would shut down, or the moisture in the air would short out your electronics. Most consumer level cameras aren't sealed very well against moisture. Try it with your digital; it might work. If not, shoot with a 35-mm you know to be tough enough, and scan your film or have it scanned when it's developed. Let us see some of your shots.

You may want to keep the camera warm with your body, do not use any advanced feature (e.g., LCD screen); take one picture at a time between warmings; go inside as soon as you can, and better yet, take pictures from inside if you can. I have an HP 315 camera, so I know what it is to enjoy its features!
